A country with miles of beautiful coastline and a plethora of historical sites would usually be awash with mass tourism, but not Turkey. Majestic Roman ruins remain untouched and village life unchanged by time and the warmth of welcome from the Turkish people is genuine. Astonishingly, there are more Roman ruins in Turkey than in Italy, and indeed more Greek ruins here than in Greece itself. Relics of the Roman and, more recently, Ottoman empires are apparent throughout the landscape, providing constant reminders of a colourful history.
Turkey is an immensely satisfying place to explore with beautiful beaches, clear turquoise waters, unspoilt coves, coastal villages, majestic mountains, vibrant cities and traditional villages to delight.
BODRUM Bohemian Bodrum with its whitewashed houses, nestles up against the hillsides that rise above two bays, separated by the magnificent castle of St Peter. Given Bodrum’s unabated popularity, it comes as a surprise to find many parts of the peninsula almost untouched by tourism and the coastline reveals several unspoilt backwaters providing hidden bays and coves with aquamarine waters.
