Greece

State: Greece

From the whitewashed houses and sapphire blue seas of the islands to the fresh greens of pine scented hills, Greece fills the senses with its scenic beauty. Family run tavernas will delight as much as magnificent hill top monasteries and ruined Hellenic temples.

MAINLAND GREECE
Athens, crowned by the Acropolis and the columns of the Parthenon is a vibrant and bustling city that will provide you with long lasting memories. It is also the gateway to the Peleponnese and 90 minutes from Nafplion a former capital of Greece. Historic sights, elegant squares, traditional tavernas, exclusive boutiques and a lively nightlife characterise this attractive town. In the north east corner of Greece is the Halkidiki Peninsula known for its sandy beaches, picturesque villages and fragrant pine scented countryside.

GREEK ISLANDS
Set in the azure Ionian Sea, the islands of Zakynthos and Kefalonia are home to inviting beaches, rugged scenery, high peaks, fascinating ruins and time-honoured hospitality. Ithaka, mythical home of King Odysseus, is a heavily wooded island with white sand beaches, accessible by boat from Kefalonia. Over in the Sporades, more than 60 sandy beaches await on the island of Skiathos with its ancient monasteries and medieval towns. Further south the Cyclades Islands beckon with their white-washed houses and distinctive architecture. Explore the pretty harbours and beaches of Mykonos. This island is quite unique as its traditional lifestyle carries on amidst stylish bars and boutiques. For Byzantine churches, Venetian castles, fishing villages and beaches visit the beguiling island of Paros. Rising from the sea, clinging to the towering volcanic cliffs, Santorini is an enchanting island, its white houses contrasting dramatically with its black sand beaches. Further south, Crete, the cradle of Mediterranean civilisation, has impressive scenery, clear blue seas, traditional villages and archaeological remains providing interest for all.
