Flying with children and infants
Does my infant need a passport?
Yes, all infants and children require a separate passport. Children’s passports are issued with a 5 year validity. Please allow plenty of time for passport applications or renewals. For further information visit the UK Government Passport Office website at www.passport.gov.uk/index.asp.

Can I purchase a separate seat for my infant, rather than have them sit on my lap?
Yes, provided that your infant is over 6 months old, you may pay the child fare in order to have a seat for them. The airline will require you to use an approved child car seat, which you must supply.
Does my infant get a luggage allowance on the aircraft?
This varies according to airline. British Airways for example allows an infant one piece of hand luggage up to 6kg and one checked in bag up to 10kg in weight. Charter airlines do not generally give a luggage allowance, but will normally accept a collapsible buggy or stroller without charge. Low-cost airlines do not offer any free luggage allowance for infants- so if you exceed your total baggage allowance, you will be charged excess baggage. If you buy a seat for your infant, then it will be entitled to the full luggage allowance. Please ask our consultants for information on your chosen airline’s policy.

I don’t want the bother of taking all my baby equipment with me – do you have any solutions?
Yes, we can either book you into a hotel where baby equipment and amenites can be pre-booked – such as the Almyra in Cyprus. Alternatively you can use our send ahead service for baby equipment, nappies and food. For a full list of options and prices visit - www.tinytotsaway.com/KidsintheMed

Can I pre-book seats on the aircraft?
| This varies from airline to airline. British Airways will allow families travelling with infants to pre-book seats at time of booking. Families travelling with children (aged 2-11 yrs) can pre-book seats 3 days prior to departure. On a charter airline, you can pay a small fee to pre-book seats for your family and we recommend that you do this to ensure that you are seated together. Low-cost airlines operate a free-seating policy, however they usually try to board families with children first – please identify yourselves to the check in staff. |
Can I pre-book children’s meals on the aircraft?
On scheduled or charter airlines, you may pre-book a child meal (there may be a charge). On low-cost airlines, you can either take your own food on board, or purchase a selection of snacks from the airline. For those travelling with infants, we recommend that you take formula milk and jars of baby food with you, since most airlines do not provide this.
I will be expecting my second child at the time of our holiday – what restrictions are there to flying?
It is important that you notify us that you are pregnant and your expected date of delivery at the time of booking (or when you find out). In general airlines will accept you for travel up to the 36th week of your pregnancy, provided it is a single pregnancy and uncomplicated. After the 28th week of pregnancy you will require a medical certificate in order to travel. The rules can vary according to airline, so please check with us at time of booking.

In resort/at the hotel
Will there be a child car seat in the car for the transfer to my hotel?
If you would like to arrange this, please advise us at time of booking. Most hotels can arrange age appropriate car seats for your airport transfers. In some cases a small charge applies. If you want to be sure of a particular brand of car seat which performs to British Safety Standards, then please be sure to take your own seat with you and notify us about this.
How can we find accommodation which offers us space for our small children and some privacy for us as parents?
We have a number of options to offer you. Some hotels have one or two bedroom apartments or villas which are ideal for families and can be very economical. In addition to this, many hotels have inter-connecting rooms, or suites which will also be suitable. Tell us about your family requirements and we are happy to make suggestions for you.
Do we need to pre-book the children’s club?
This varies from hotel to hotel so please ask us at time of booking. In general we do not recommend pre-booking more than more than one or two sessions for young children, just in case the children do not take to the new environment.
Do we need to pre-book babysitting?
Not usually. Most hotels can organise babysitting with a minimum of 24 hours notice. Babysitting charges are payable directly to the babysitter or the hotel.
Will there be other children at the hotel?
The hotels featured in our Kids in the Med brochure have been chosen as being highly suitable for families, whether they have a kids club or not. During the main school holidays and in particular the summer season (July and August) you will undoubtedly find many families from all over Europe staying at the hotels.
Do the swimming pools and beaches have lifeguards?
Some of our hotels may have lifeguards at the pools and/or beach during certain periods of the day. Please check with the hotel for full details. We strongly recommend that all children are supervised when in or by the water.
